SWim Week 24.JPG

Swim week &
back to school

As we enter the hot days of summer, many of us take advantage of heading to a pool or beach to cool off.

Most of our students do not live near a beach or swimming pool. They have never had the opportunity to take lessons to learn how to be safe in the water.

Project Amigo hosts Swim Week to give the kids the opportunity to learn basic swimming skills in a safe environment.

As a volunteer, you will be led by a certified swim coach to help the students to learn the basic fundamentals of swimming. You will assist the students in the water while having fun with them.

Volunteers will also participate in Project Amigo's annual backpack distribution. You will help fill the backpacks with school supplies along side current Project Amigo becarios (scholarship recipients). Then you will participate and observe the backpack distribution ceremonies. This is a truly heart warming experience!

If you enjoy splashing around in the water while having fun with kids, consider registering for this fun in the sun week! It will be a wonderful and memorable experience!

Community & Culture

Give the gift of literacy!

While it’s well known that Project Amigo provides scholarships to individual students, did you know we also work with whole schools in fostering a love of learning and promoting strong literacy skills?

You will help to organize, deliver and install mini-libraries in small, under-serviced, rural schools, work alongside kids as they read, engage one-on-one in literacy and art activities, and create memories with them that can last a lifetime.

Afternoons are spent immersing ourselves in the local culture and communities as we explore this hidden corner of Mexico.

 Mexican Cooking

Come and discover the flavors of Colima!

During a Mexican Cooking Service Week you will learn how to prepare typical Mexican dishes with  of the traditional Colima cuisine with our own Project Amigo chefs!

We will see the process of making fresh corn tortillas, we will visit coffee plantations and learn about its process, as well as a visit to the organic farm where we will obtain some of our ingredients.

We will learn about the variety of artisanal mezcals of Mexico and the difference between mezcal and tequila.

Come and join us for a week full of flavors and colors!

Xmas Family & elfs 23.JPG

Christmas Fiesta

Be one of Santa’s little Elfs this Christmas!

Each year Project Amigo elementary students are invited to an enormous Christmas Fiesta.

Each child receives a new outfit, new shoes, a gift and a book--and is a special guest at the biggest, most fantastic Christmas Fiesta ever. And you’re invited, too!

Project Amigo Elfs (volunteers) wrap gifts, put up decorations, stuff piñatas and play host alongside Santa.

The Christmas Fiesta is a highlight of the year for Project Amigo kids and this Service Wee is ideal for volunteer families.

Your young kids or grandkids will have never seen a Christmas Party like it.
